Here are the steps to adding a simple product to you WooCommerce shop.
Step 1 - Navigate to the Add Product page in the backend of your WordPress website.
Step 2 - Add a product name and description.
Step 3 - Add Product Images
It is Important to optimise images before uploading them to a website. Ideal file size for product images is around 300kb. There are many tools online that can help you optimise your images, we use https://squoosh.app/
Click on the set product image link to open the website's media library to choose an image.
You can drag and drop images from your computer directly to the media library to upload them.
Select your product image and click Set product image. This will set the selected image as your product's main Image.
To add additional images to the product follow the same process above but click the Add product gallery images link. You will be able to select more than one image from the media library by holding shift and clicking the relevant images.
Step 4 - Adding categories.
You can add a category to help filter items on your shop.
If you have already added categories, you can tick all that apply. Otherwise click the + Add new category link to add a new one.
Enter the category name, then click Add new category to save it.
You can also select a parent category if one is set up e.g. Games could be a parent category to Cards.
Step 5 - Product data
Below the product description box there should be a product data box.
In the General tab you can edit the regular price, you only need to enter the value.
In the Inventory tab you can add an SKU and select whether you want to manage stock numbers through the website.
In the Shipping tab you can enter shipping information and assign a shipping class to a product if nessecary. (Shipping classes are used for adding specific rules to products e.g. fragile or oversized etc.)
Step 6 - Publishing your product
Once you are happy with the product information you have added, click the Publish button to publish it to your shop.
If you still need to add more information, you can click Save Draft and come back to it at a later date.
